In 2021, my wife's dad passed away, and my mother-in-law moved in with us. Living with an older adult has been extremely rewarding, and it's been great for our kids to spend so much time with their grandmother. It's also been eye-opening, with regard to how much care can be required when an older adult has a health issue. A good caregiver can be the difference between a return home after a couple of nights in the hospital, and a hospital stay that stretches into a months-long stay in a rehab facility. We are always a quick phone call away whenever needs arise, but we have still ended up employing a caregiver for times when we are at work or out of town. We've also found out that a good caregiver can become a trusted friend and a member of the family.

I realized that in-home care was the perfect business for our family, in that it emphasized the parts of owning a business that I already enjoyed--employing people, customer service--and combines that with a service component that I'd found so rewarding in libraries.

Our Mission: Elevating In-Home Care With Old-School Manners

Rooted in Willoughby, Serving Our Neighbors.

My family and I moved to Lake County in 2019. I had spent years working as a librarian at Willoughby-Eastlake Public Library, and I was deeply charmed by downtown Willoughby, which has a Norman Rockwell-esque vibe to it, with walkable shops and eateries on Erie Street, Wes Point park centrally located across the courthouse, and no shortage of family friendly activities. On a given summer weeknight in Downtown Willoughby, there might be an outdoor movie in the library lawn, an art walk through the downtown galleries, and several well-attended little league games at Todd Field. The Chagrin River runs through town just to the east of historic downtown, and the northern border of the city is Lake Erie, so there is stunning natural beauty and plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation.. To top it off, Willoughby is nicknamed "The Courtesy City" and it's true, people are just nice there.

Our Promise: The Courtesy Standard

Courtesy

Courtesy

To us, Courtesy isn't just about saying "please" and "thank you." It's about arriving on time, dressing professionally, and treating your home with the utmost reverence. It's the "Courtesy City" way—modern efficiency meets traditional respect.

Compassion

Compassion

Compassion means we listen before we act. We understand the emotional weight of inviting a caregiver into your life. Our team is trained to provide not just physical assistance but also the emotional support and companionship that make every day brighter.

Community

Community

We are a Community-first organization. Whether it's navigating a Lake County snowstorm or understanding the local resources available in Geauga and Cuyahoga counties, we are here because we live here. We aren't just a business; we are your neighbors.

Care You Can Trust, Without Question

We know that trust is earned, never given. That’s why every member of the Courtesy City Care team undergoes a rigorous multi-point vetting process:

  • Comprehensive background checks and drug screening.
  • In-depth character interviews focused on our core pillars.
